New Children's Book Series by Local Author

By Macaroni KID Publisher, Courtney J. April 30, 2024

At a recent book-signing event in Opelousas we were introduced to a volume of Children's books that have been newly released and available at Black Pot Bookshop. We took the opportunity to take home one of the new children's books written by local author C.P Landry!

Author C.P Landry, who is from South Louisiana, was happy to meet with fans young and old as he introduced the volumes of Cajun Kids Adventures. The Realistic Fiction chapter books are loosely based on Landry's own experiences and challenges while bringing up his 5 children with respect to their Cajun heritage.

Landry is an accomplished author in Children's Literature. His first volume in the Cajun Kids Adventures has also been acknowledged as a finalist in the American Writing Awards, specifically in the Children’s Book International category. The series is aimed towards readers between the ages of 8-14, making this an ideal reading selection for each of my boys who are 9 and 11.

At first my youngest didn't seem too interested but we picked up a copy to see if he might like it and began reading it as a family. What I thought was really neat when I first flipped through the pages, just before you begin Chapter 1 is a list of Cajun words that are used in the book such as marsh and cistern with a definition to help readers better understand what they are.

My 11-year old and even our teenage daughter began taking an interest in the book. The descriptions really paint the picture of the scenes as you are reading through it. It takes you through the adventures of the 5 siblings and teaches family values better than the shows you stream today.

Honestly the book is great to read aloud as a family and my 11-year old son, who is a much more enthusiastic reader than my other children, can't wait to see what comes next in Volume 2.

The Adventure series are available in soft and hard copies from www.Cajunkids.com, but if you can't wait to get your hands on a copy you can find the first 4 volumes available at Black Pot Bookshop in Downtown Opelousas to take home and enjoy.

While it is not currently registered in the Accelerated Reader program, you can easily submit a request to have it added if it has been well-received by your kids so they can AR test on it. Simply go to www.renaissance.com/resources/suggest-ar-quizzes/ and input the required info (Book title, author, ISBN number, Publisher, and Reading Level)

Volume 5, the Watchmen is now available for Pre-Order at www.Cajunkids.com
